‘The second anniversary of the Tohoku (East Japan) Earthquake: Short Films Screening’
St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art, Glasgow
The event was supported by the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation.
To mark the second anniversary of the Tohoku (East Japan) Earthquake, a special Japan Matters was co-organised by Japan Desk Scotland and Japanese Matsuri for Glasgow, a recognised Scottish charity (SC 034172), in cooperation with Glasgow Museums.
A minute of silence was observed for those affected by the accident.
The following three short films were screened.
‘The tsunami that hit Noda Village, Iwate’ (13 mins), courtesy of Noda Village Office. Noda Village along the Pacific Coast was affected by the tsunami. The films were taken by two different fishers cooperative associations within the village. To Noda Village Office a donation was sent by Japanese Matsuri for Glasgow, in 2011 and in 2012, via Kunohe Village Office, with which JMG has developed exchanges over the years.
‘My Ex in Fukushima, a new friend in Tokyo, and I‘ (35 mins), a drama created by Yuki Naito and Shoko Nemoto, Fukushima University undergraduate students, about Fukushima students’ life before and after the accident. In Japanese with English subtitles.
‘Our Friends in Fukushima‘ (40 mins), a record of interviews conducted in December 2012 with academics and students at Fukushima University by Japan Desk Scotland. In Japanese with English subtitles.
At the event a donation to the amount of £91.92 was raised, which JMG has sent to Noda and Fudai Village Offices via Kunohe Village Office.
